Derrick Crane Before the Portland Railway was built, derrick cranes were used in the coastal quarries to lift the Portland stone on to sailing barges for transportation. This is a photo taken while walking the walks4softies walk The 3 Lighthouses from Portland Bill, Dorset during April 2003. There are many other walks near Portland Bill on walks4softies.
