From Kimmeridge the walk starts with an easy climb up the hill towards Clavel Tower. It then follows the South West Coast Path to Rope Lake Head where it turns inland and climbs up to Swyre Head. Just before Swyre Head the path is very steep. The walk then continues along the top of Smedmore Hill providing both inland and sea views. The walk returns to the car park through Kimmeridge village and across farmland.
