This walk starts at the Fontmell car park and takes you up to Melbury Beacon at the top of Melbury Hill. It returns to the car park via East Compton. At 863 feet / 263 meters high Melbury Hill is one of the highest hills in the area offering spectacular views in all directions.
On a clear and calm day the top of Melbury hill would be a good place for a picnic.
Compton Abbas is on the A350 Blandford Forum to Shaftesbury road. From Compton Abbas take the road towards Ashmore. Turn left at the next crossroads. The Fontmell car park is just after the turning to the airfield.
