Old Sarum, Wiltshire, South West England

Old Sarum, known as the Old Castle by locals, was originally built in the Iron Age at about 500 BC. Since then it has been used by the Romans, Saxons and Normans. During the 11th century a Castle, Palace and Cathedral were built within the earthwork ramparts. The cathedral was moved to New Sarum, now known as Salisbury, during the 13th century. Old Sarum is now managed by English Heritage.
Allow some time to explore Old Sarum and take in the excellent views of the Avon Valley and Salisbury. There is a charge for entry to the Castle and Palace.
Old Sarum is 2 miles North of Salisbury off the A345.
